Intertwined Type The effect of a character going behind and in front of another character can be done through the use of masking channels.

To do this you will need to do the following
  • Set Type
  • Create knockout channel
  • Load channels and fill

Set Type

Step Action
1 Create a new RGB file 190 pixels x 120 pixels, 72dpi
2 Show channels
3 Create a new channel "first word"
4 Select all and clear
5 Type tool - Type "J" arial 84 pt bold
6 Type tool - Type "ump" arial 48 pt bold and position next to J
7 Create a new channel "second word"
8 Select all and clear
9 Type tool - Type "S" arial 84 pt bold
10 Type tool - Type "lide" arial 48 pt bold and position next to S
11 Position the type overall so that the "S" is overlapping the "J"

Creat Knockout channel

Step Action
1 Image Calculations
  • Source 1: first word
  • Source 2: second word
  • Blend: add
  • Result: new
2 Select the new channel
3 Rename to upper intersect
4 Use the lasso tool to select the lower piece of black
5 Delete the piece

Load Channels and Fill

Step Action
1 Select RGB
2 Show layers
3 Load selection first word and invert
4 Fill with any color
5 Load selection second word and invert
6 Load selection upper intersect
  • Select invert
  • Select Subtract from selection
7 Fill with a different color
